Custom Finish Options

When ordering a custom flag, the finish is just as important as the design. It affects how your flag hangs, how it performs, and how long it lasts.

At Pride Flag SD, we make custom flags in house in San Diego using traditional techniques. We’re not just a Queer owned flag company, we’re also expert flag makers. Over the years we’ve helped customers rig flags to buildings, added sleeves for government presentation poles, and created custom banner attachments for LGBTQ centers.

All of our stock flags come standard with a canvas header and brass grommets, but this can always be adjusted for your specific needs. It is also important to think about how you plan to hang or carry your flag, as that will help determine the best finish.

If you do not see an option that feels like the right fit, feel free to Contact us. We are always happy to help find the best solution.

Here is a quick breakdown of our most common finish options to help you choose.

Header & Grommets

Our classic flag finish. We use a stiff white canvas header to reinforce the flag and hand punch solid brass grommets. This traditional construction provides the structure and durability a flag needs to perform over time.

Roped Header & Thimbles

Used on our larger flags and built for high stress conditions. A rope is sewn into the header for added strength, and finished with solid thimbles that attach securely to larger snap hooks. This is one of the most traditional flag finishes, rooted in historical flag making methods. All of our flags 8' × 12' and larger are finished this way.

Pole Sleeve & Tab

A sewn sleeve slides over the pole, with an internal tab to keep the flag in place. Recommended for presentation flagpoles for a clean, structured look. For our striped designs, we extend the design to form the sleeve. For our Progress Pride flags, we use a white sleeve for a consistent finish.

D-Rings with Webbing

Designed for flexible, custom rigging. We reinforce each point with heavy duty nylon webbing and attach solid brass D-rings for strength. Ideal for securing flags in multiple locations, including all four corners in high wind conditions. D-rings can be placed wherever needed.

Nylon Handles

Built for grip and control. Nylon webbing handles are sewn into the hem of the flag, making it easy to carry during events or parades. Typically spaced every 7 feet, but fully customizable based on your needs.
